Sunday night while chatting, my neighbors decided they were going to start their Independence Day celebration a bit early. They started shooting off fireworks from the balcony, then switched to placing them in the grass between our buildings, then ended the night lighting them right on the balcony itself. The WOODEN balcony. This was the best picture I could get, without using flash. It was midnight after all. The black vertical lines through the glow are the wooden slats of the railing.
I didn't call the police, all the guys had to do was plead innocent, and if the officer didn't actually SEE them doing it, he had no way to prove it, it would just be my word against theirs. I confirmed this with the City yesterday after work. I also found out there is no noise ordinance for the City of Naperville. Any time, day or night, if someone is too loud and is disturbing me, I can call the police. They will come and ask them to quiet down. If they don't, and I call the police back, then the officer would ask me if I want to press charges for disturbing the peace. So there is no official quiet time like 9pm or 10pm in Naperville. So I now have a picture, which I've sent to resident relations so she could see it. And I have all the debris from the fireworks. They were lighting off Magic Crystals. You can also watch a you tube video of what they are like here. I am now armed with lots of evidence and information for the next time they decide to shoot off fireworks on a Sunday night at 12:00AM.
That balcony looks like it's burning, I can't believe it didn't burn down flat!
ReplyDeleteBut at least now you know when the golf course is mowing the lawn at 6:30am on a Sunday you can call the police to complain!
Wow, are those neighbors nuts or what? I'm with Kerry...can't believe that balcony didn't burn. And I can't believe they can set off fireworks in an apartment complex like that. Are fireworks legal in Illinois? (they aren't in PA but people still get them)
ReplyDeleteWe have a neighbor (who lives about 25 yards from my mother's bedroom) who will come home from work at night, turn on the radio full blast in his garage, and then go inside the house and stay. We can hear the loud thumping up here, so it's very loud at mom's. I've thought about calling the police a few times, but haven't done it yet. No noise ordinance in this township either. The township secretary works with me at the mill and we've talked about it several times.
Cool picture - very uncool neighbors... I wish I had $9.99 (for 4) to burn like that.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how people can be so inconsiderate (let alone just downright stupid). Fireworks at midnight, cutting grass at 6:30 AM... sheesh.
I cringe when I cut the grass at the office at 9:30 AM, doing it *that* early because it isn't too warm yet.
While I know some people work nights, so you can't escape bothering someone, however, if they just ask me to, I'll do whatevers making the noise at some other time.
My folks always had a "no phone calls before 9 AM weekedays and 10 AM on weekends" thing - but these days it seems like "do whatever you want, whenever you want, with no thought for the consequences" seems to be the rule.
What idiots. I still say it's time for a live cam feed directly from your place to the police station...aim it at the neighbors. One of these days they're gonna end up torching someone's apartment on accident.
ReplyDeletepsst....btw....I like the new decor....
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable! Next time maybe you ought to call the fire department - that might get their attention.
ReplyDeleteWe got people in the neighborhood like that I just wanna cuss them out especially when we've had no rain and they get out there shooting off roman candles and bottle rockets......someday they are going to burn a house down...sad so sad inconsiderate oafs
