Not a lot happening here right now. Dog days of summer and all. Had some really bad storms go through yesterday afternoon, then again tonight. Lots of heavy rain, lightning, thunder, even some flood watches for some areas. Humidity is high, so I've been keeping my a/c on. I'm sure I'll be cringing when I look at my electric bill in a couple weeks.
I talked to my aunt in California last night. For those of you that don't know, my uncle was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease a few years ago and my aunt has been taking care of him at home. She did it alone until she physically couldn't anymore due to her health. He's a tall man, and it became physically impossible for her to help him up when he would fall. She actually hurt herself trying to. She eventually had full-time caretakers at the house, but now he's unable to swallow properly so he was taken to the hospital where they inserted a feeding tube. Because of that, it was time to put him in a care facility. I hate to call them nursing homes, simply because of the image I get, after visiting a couple of them when my father was sick. Anyway, he's in the best one in the area, and my aunt is now dealing with living on her own for the first time in her life, at 68.
I have a sister living in Colorado that is going to be moving back to California before the snow flies, and my aunt suggested how nice it would be if I were to move to California, and the three of us could hang out together, lol. I told her I'd look into it. I obviously can't make any decisions right now, my lease is up end of November, and I don't think I could realistically get everything done between now and then, even if I did find a job next week. So the fastest would be a year, and that's IF I could find a job and was willing to make the move. The weather is beautiful out there in San Diego. But I'm concerned with the cost of living, and the smog/pollution laws there mean I would have to buy a car in California to make sure it conforms, instead of just taking the car I have. So much to think about. Good thing I'm giving myself lots of time, lol.
Anyway, that's about it for now. Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I've shown you everything that was on my camera. Guess it's time to take more pictures, huh? Hmmmm, now to find something interesting to show you...

I can certainly relate about the upcoming electric bill. My air conditioner has been running just about every day for the last couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteBig move to consider and I know how scary that has to be. The good thing is you would have family there. And winters will be a whole lot warmer!
Wow! Big move to consider! I can't even imagine you living in California! I'm sure the options for you would be endless there if you decide to go! I would love to live in California, or hell Florida or Texas LOL anywhere there isn't snow 10 months of the year!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your uncle had to be moved to a care facility. It's a hard decision for anyone to have to make. I hope your aunt makes out okay with the adjustment of living alone. I'm sure your aunt (and sister) would love having you live close by, but it's a big step. Good luck with the decision making.
ReplyDeleteHmm...pics of your neighborhood would be nice. :)
Well, as I told you last night you can't move to California before I do!!!!!! Of course that would give me one more place to visit while I'm out visiting my kids. San Diego is expensive, but wages compensate. All of my kids are doing quite well economically. It is the land of opportunity. My dad owned a big ranch in the central valley and we always lived nicely. The thing wonderful about CA is the fact that you can visit the snow and the ocean in one day. I do miss it. Anyway have a wonderful day. I enjoyed talking to you Sunday and Monday.
ReplyDeleteThe electric bills are going up on this end too. We've had sunny days for a couple weeks and this week we're supposed to hit triple digits most of the week. *bleah*
ReplyDeleteCalifornia is a big move, but it may be worth it to be near family. Especially if one is in a care center and one is getting older and could use the extra help herself...
That's one reason I'm glad we don't have a/c in our homes. From what I've heard, it's a LOT cheaper to run a fan and/or humidifyer from a normal electrical socket than to run a/c. I could be wrong, but that's what I've been told. Either way though, when you have something like that, you tend to rely on it more than you really should, then you get the electric bill that causes you to feel faint for reasons that have nothing to do with the heat. LOL!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your uncle. It's a shame that your aunt can't take care of him at home any more. But, at least he'll recieve the best possible care in the hospital and then in a 'care facility'.
If you lived in the heat and humidity like we have around here, you would really need to have air conditioning or central air or you wouldn't get any sleep and you would have a hard time breathing. I feel sorry for people who can't afford to have A/C in this kind of weather. Tonight it's so humid (we had some rain earlier but it made it worse) it's just outright steamy and very oppressive outside. Weather.com says we have 83% humidity. I mowed lawn before supper and was soaked with sweat after a short time. (bet you really wanted to know that, didn't you? LOL)
ReplyDeleteElectricity is so inexpensive here compared to my area in CA. We keep the air on 66 degrees all the time (when i'm sitting down I turn the thermostat up so I don't freeze). Our bill last month to cool a 2,500 sq foot house was only 90.00 dollars. In comparison a house in CA equal to mine would cost about 400.00 to 600.00 depending on the thermostat setting
ReplyDeleteIt actually does seem cheaper Tori. We used to keep the a/c set at 72 or so for the summer and dang those electric bills! This year we're set at 80 (which is way too warm for my liking to be honest) but we also have 3 fans going (one tower in the bedroom, one tower in the office and one ceiling fan in the livingroom) and it not only feels cooler but the electric bill wasnt as high either.
ReplyDeleteI dread the electric bill this coming month...3 a/cs running almost constantly (the one in my bedroom only runs at night or when I'm in there writing).
ReplyDeleteCalifornia? Wow. I won't say stay or go, but I will tell you to go with what you feel is best for you in the long run.
Huggsss.
