This morning on the way to work, I encountered a traffic jam on the interstate. As I pulled up to a stop behind the car in front of me, I was ever so gently bumped from behind by an SUV. Imagining the worst (my rear bumper half hanging off), I signaled and moved over three lanes to the right, to the shoulder, so I could inspect the damage. The lady driving the SUV pulled up behind me and sat there, like she was waiting for something. I called my boss to tell him what happened and that I would be a little late for work.
I carefully got out of my car, trying not to get hit by zooming cars and trucks exiting off to another interstate. The lady joined me behind my car, to look at the expected damage. To my shock and surprise and glee, my car didn't have a scratch, it didn't have a dent, it didn't have anything. I looked at this lady that had tried and failed to hurt my car, and decided showing some kindness was in order. We exchanged information, and each went on our way.
I'm glad you didn't get hurt and that neither of your vehicles sustained any damage.
ReplyDeleteI got rear-ended at the traffic light at the end of the bridge in Towanda several years ago. An elderly man didn't stop in time and smacked into me. (hey, maybe that's how my neck got hurt?) My car's rear bumper didn't look that bad, but the paint was chipped in a couple of places. He had one of those big older cars that had the rubber bumper things sticking out from the steel bumper and they chipped the paint where they hit. (bumper guards?) Anyway, I told him it was okay and we drove off. I knew where the guy lived but never pursued it even though the bumper was more messed up that I orginally thought.
Glad you're in one piece, it coulda been much worse.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of one winter when daddy got into an accident at the local mall. He was driving a Ford Escort hatchback at the time. I cant remember what the other person was driving but I do remember that daddy said it was a ka-ching type car. Imagine both of their surprise when the expensive car was TOTALLED and the Escort didnt have more than a scratch on it!!!
So glad fot the happy ending...wet season is upon us, must be carefull on the road. You are trully blessed dear!

ReplyDeleteSounds like the person behind you was really too close and/or only half paying attention. For me getting out of traffic and being on the shoulder would be frightening scary - having seen people (well, their cars I mean) hit on the side of the road.
